Many thanks Jasem :) ! This feature of multiple optical trains was not implemented last time I used Ekos. I found it, configured ... and it works !
Now I need to invest time to be as effective with Kstars/Ekos than I'm currently with N.I.N.A. It would be easier for me to stay within Linux, as my only use of Windows is to run NINA...

Hi. Have been away from Kstars/ Ekos for a while... But having seen a lot of updates regarding Kstars and Indi I took the time to re-test my astro-photo setup with Ekos.
And, very good news, every thing seems to connect and be controlled as expected !! :)
Well ... almost every thing: my imaging camera is well recognized, as well as my second camera that I use for guiding with OAG. BUT I cannot tell Ekos to use the second camera for guiding: it is taking guide images with my imaging camera... I just spent an hour trying to solve it, but I'm stuck. :(
I will open a dedicated topic to find help on this stupid issue.
Clear sky !

Thanks for your advice. I'm doing my best to follow when it starts to be technical, but reaching my limits quickly.
Following the link you provided, I have been looking for the libraries that are marked as 'Needed'. I did that with my desktop, on which the filter wheel is recognized, and on my laptop, that I'm using with the telescope. Configurations are identical on both, but it is to be noticed that almost half of the libraries are missing.
In case, I re-installed INDI drivers and Kstars/Ekos. Unfortunately the problem remains.

I Grant,
Pleased to read that the topic is progressing positively!
I'm using Mint 20.2 that is based upon Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa). 'libgcc1' was natively installed but not 'lib64stdc++6'. So I did it manually (Synaptic package) for the latest, and rebooted the machine, in case.
Unfortunately it doesn't solve the issue in my case. Is their any other action that I could test ?
Have a good day!
Didier

Hi Everyone,

Because an astrophoto setup is a chain that don't works if a part fail ... I have been oblige to move under Windows, where all the Ascom drivers works.
At this occasion I discovered the open source software 'N.I.N.A' and honestly I have been impressed. And at least I can make pictures !
Nevertheless my wish is to stay as much as possible within linux (Mint 20.2 currently). Accordingly I'm regularly testing updates of Kstars/ Ekos/ Indi. That I did today, but only to find that the error remains (Kstars 3.5.5 stable and INDI drivers updates).
I unfortunately cannot improve the situation by myself, so I continue to hope that someone, someday, will identify the problem.
Clear sky to All,
Didier

Hi Klaus,
Thanks for your message. I just checked the kern.log:
On my laptop:
Feb 21 15:21:35 didier-XPS-13-9343 kernel: [10250.013177] indi_atik_wheel[4610]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f231104cb82 sp 00007ffdc64eaef8 error 4 in libc-2.31.so[7f2310eeb000+178000]

On my tower PC:
No such 'segfault' message.

Hoping that it may speaks to some experts to trigger a fixing...
Best regards

Hello,
I'm having +/- the same issue ('INDI Driver crashed' from Kstars/Ekos), but with some additional information.
To simplify my tests I did a minimal setup for Ekos:

  • CCD: Starlight Xpress SX CCD
  • Filter: Atik EFW (2.2)
Under Linux Mint 19.3 / Ubuntu 18.04 on my tower PC, it's working perfectly.
Exact same setting under Linux Mint 20 / Ubuntu Focal Fossa on my laptop crashed the INDI driver.
I did a lot of tests: different cables, with or without a USB 3.0 hub, main or battery powered, connection before or after the PC or Kstars.
Results: works consistently on my tower and consistently crashing on my laptop.
I did run the same test using ekos-debugger. Maybe an expert could have a look to the resulting small .txt log files attached.

File Attachment:

File Name: indi_app_log_21-02-21T11-45-02.txt
File Size: 3 KB

File Attachment:

File Name: indi_debug_log_21-02-21T11-45-02.txt
File Size: 1 KB

I'm unfortunately unable to analyse the logs to understand the root of the problem (and even if there are useful information in there).
Also: I have exactly the same .txt file related to successfull attempts on my tower PC, in case it can help.
Can someone help us ?
Best regards

Hi Doug. Thank you to have took the time to detail the process. I have not been precise enough in my former message. I know that the ServoCAT cannot issue a GoTo command by itself. My understanding after some exchanges with StellarCAT is that an external planetarium software such as Kstars would send a GoTo to the ServoCAT. The ServoCAT recognise it as a command for the AN and transfer it. At this point the process is the one that you have described, using RA/DEC encoders (my mount is equatorial). In this configuration the AN remain necessary to compute the commands to be send to the ServoCAT for the motors.
However, you are of course right, Kstars and AN are redundant, doing the same job. So I guess it would be simpler to get rid of the AN. But with my current setting, only the AN is connected to encoders, so that the ServoCAT knows the position of the mount only through the AN. I don't know if there is a setting to connect the encoders directly to the ServoCAT.
Thanks again for your interest in the topic.

Hi Doug. Thanks for the comment. My only goal is be remotelly control the whole system (mount + imaging) using Kstars/ Ekos. I'm not an engineer and have limited understanding about how to acheived it.
From recent exchanges with Gary Myers / StellarCAT it seams that the ServoCAT is sending GoTo requests to the AN when this late is in 'CATALOG' / 'PLANETARIUM'. So I deduce that the AN should remain necessary and that Ekos should talk to the ServoCAT.

Hi Everyone,

I was looking to command my whole astrophotography system using Astroberry, but it seams that I cannot send GoTo orders to the ArgoNavis + ServoCAT due to the lack of ServoCAT INDI driver.
I contacted the founder of StellarCAT who provide the ServoCAT electronic that drive the motors using the encoder's informations send by the ArgoNavis. M. Gary Myers told me that he is open to send the details of our PC Protocol so that an INDI driver can be written, or derived from the ASCOM ServoCAT driver that already exist.

Do you think that's something possible?

Didier PEYRET created a new topic ' ServoCAT - Argo Navis' in the forum. 4 years ago

Hello Everyone,

I'm using a home-made Newtonian 8" scope with ServoCAT + Argo Navis + Hitecastro DC focuser + Lodestar Starlight Xpress guide cam + Nikon camera body.
I'm looking to control the system using Astroberry but so far failed to connect to the mount (Ekos connect OK to the focuser, Nikon and guide camera).
Do anyone of you you knows about such configuration or understand what's wrong in the settings below?
Here was the initial configuration:
- AN serial 1 connected to the Raspberry with the dedicated cable + DB9 to USB converter.
- Serial 1 at 9600 baud and Startup on 'meade'
- AN serial 2 connected to the DSC port on the servoCAT
- Serial 2 at 19200 baud and Startup on 'servocat'
- No connection on the ServoCAT 'PC Port'

After having received an answer from the Wildcard Innovations forum I changed for these settings:
- AN serial 1 connected to the DSC port on the ServoCAT
- Serial 1 at 19200 baud and Startup on 'servocat'
- Raspberry connected to the ServoCAT 'PC Port' via DB9 to USB converter
- ServoCAT AUX switch 'On' (down)
However there is no 'ServoCAT' in the mount profiles of Ekos. I tested LX200 Basic and Classic but did not succeed to connect.

Thank you for any help !
