yes. the tasks are something that are spawned and managed by the kernel itself, it is the kernel itself which decides for example how many kworker to spawn (those are the one that do actual job on the computer), KDE spawns few processes as well (I believe but take this with a grain of salt, more than XFCE) but the kernel we are running on AA is waaaaaay more recent than the one from AB (and also 20% more efficient in multitasking, I don't recall if that happened in version 6.1 or 6.2)

It is hard to reach a sweet point between ready to be used out of the box and being light but we always try to evaluate every thing from both perspective (for example, the gps daemon is turned off by default cause not everyone will be using that).

I believe most of those tasks are actually used by useful processes but I will look into this by myself to see if there is something else that may be disabled at boot time bv default!

Hi Paul, the answer is at the same time yes and no. From a pure desktop perspective KDE Plasma is definitely more resource hungry than xfce but overall this is not impacting the astro suite as it won't re-draw stuff.

While I can't say I had bad experience with my Pi4 8GB I know for example running AA on a pi3 is impossibile due to resource constraints.

Also to note, the pi5 runs KDE plasma incredibly smoothly

If you are worried KDE will slow down things rest assured it won't, but I get the point it is not xfce; I still like it very much and I chose it cause of the more modern look and feeling

since I have been pulled in, I'd like to clarify that while I am the "main" character behind astroarch and being using mostly FOSS since forever I know very well why is SO BAD to have a one person project.

AstroArch can be considered mantained by at least 3 people and rest assured, if I should die tomorrow Stephan will be able to release new versions the same way I did till now :D

I am also considering mirroring the repo where I host pre-compiled package and have multiple owners for that.

From that pov I think AA is in a slightly better position
