Hi Jacob,
I'm the guy who overhauled the DSO stuff a while ago.
Looking at your screenrecording, I believe to see what might have been going on.
The objects that remained to the NGC catalog, but you changed the colors of the "User" catalog, as this was the row that was selected in the UI.
It's certainly not good UI design... I'll look into why I didn't put the color config in the canonical place...

You can try and see if your issues are resolved now after
rm -r ~/.local/share/knewstuff3/ & rm -r ~/.cache/kstars/
to clean the cache. (or wait a few hours...).

You don't get m45 because jasem has not updated the knewstuff on his server yet.
Upon pressing enter you go to m45 because it is being looked up on the internet and added to your user catalog.
