QHY8 support/configuration

Hi,

Having a great time now that some initial startup ignorance is out of the way  . Have my iEQ45, QHY5 and Moonlite focuser all working through a Raspberry Pi.

Can't see how to configure for my imaging camera, a QHY8. Perhaps the indi_qhy_ccd only works for the QHY5? Here's now I start up indiserver on the Pi:
indiserver -v indi_ieq_telescope indi_moonlite_focus indi_qhy_ccd
When I connect from KStars (under virtual machine), there is only one option for QHY, so that's what I select. I only get connected to the QHY5.

From forum postings it looks like QHY support is a little iffy anyway. Is the QHY8 supported at all?

Thanks for the help,

Charles

I have a QHY 5-II-M that has never really worked correctly for me. I have been busy working through other issues/settings with the thought I would come back to the QHY 5-II-M once there has been more progress on the drivers or sell it and get the lodestar. Do you mind sharing which QHY5 you have and maybe the settings you have had success with?

The specifications on the QHY 5-ll-M show the resolution to be 1280*1024 from indi I seem to be locked at 720*576.

Thanks in advance!

Well sure, kind of off-topic, but basically, all I did was install INDI on the Raspberry Pi Ubuntu MATE system, then connect to it from KStars running in the Ekos VM. The device popped up in the INDI control panel and I hit "Connect". That's it. Under image settings, it's 1290x960, no binning, raw images. (BTW, QHY5-II-M)

On the CCD tab of Ekos, I picked an exposure and clicked "preview". I'm testing indoors now so I didn't get an actual image but I got an indication that the guide scope was getting light. The real test is under the stars, which are in short supply today and tonight around here.

Anyone know about the QHY8?

QHY5 & 8 should be working fine. You select QHY CCD as CCD and also as Guider in Ekos setup page? Also, are the CCDs connected directly to the Pi or via a powered USB hub?

Hi,

Ok, I've done a variety of things since the last posting. Here is my config:

1) RPi powered from 7-port USB hub, hub PS rated at 2.3 A.
2) All devices plugged into USB hub
3) At this time, only two devices plugged in: iEQ45 mount and QHY8 camera
4) Can connect with and move the mount with no trouble.
5) No QHY devices show up in INDI control panel.
6) In Ekos window, the log says:
2015-11-01T02:08:25 Unable to establish remote device:
+ QHY CCD
Please ensure remote device name corresponds to actual device name.
The QHY8 is connected. It has served me well for many years when connected to a Windows machine.

Kstars is version 2.4.0 and there are no updates available.

What have I left out? Thankfully, the sky is cloudy here now...

By looking at the QHY CCD INDI device page, it seems that QHY8L is supported, there is no mention of QHY8. Run lsusb, what's the VID:PID for the QHY?

I guess I was hoping a QHY8 was close enough to a 8L.

Anyway, lsusb is somewhat cryptic:
Bus 002 Device 020: ID 16c0:2972 Van Ooijen Technische Informatica
But I know that's the QHY8 because of output from dmesg:

I added the VID:PID to the QHY rules file, so try tomorrow. Make sure to restart your PC after the update from INDI.

Thanks, I will try it. Just a warning that I might not get to it so fast since it's no longer the weekend, but will let you know when I do.

Ok, I just had fun rebuilding the Pi, this time with Raspbian Jessie. I downloaded the "Daily INDI library for Raspberry Pi" and installed all the packages as instructed.

Setting up through KStars on the VM, I have the same problem as yesterday:
Unable to establish remote device:
+ QHY CCD
Did I get the updated package? How can I tell? Also, since the driver is running on the Pi, I don't see why I need to reboot my PC, but perhaps I do all the same?

Thanks,

Charles

You need to reboot the device (or run sudo udevadm control --reload). Did you reboot the Pi after installing the INDI packages? After running INDI server, you can run:
indi_getprop | grep QHY

and if you see QHY properties then the camera was successfully detected, and then you can proceed to connect to it from KStars.

Thanks. The Pi has been power cycled several times. indi_getprop only revealed the QHY5 as being detected. After trying this once, I downloaded a new version of libindi_1.1.0_rpi.tar.gz and reinstalled; same result:
