I'm now using an UP board. Not very cheap, but it was one that had gigabit Ethernet available. Running great on Ubuntu mate for some weeks now. Not sure about their support etc. though, seems a bit of a niche among boards.

I love Ekos and KStars and since I got my Ethernet connection last month most is working beautifully. However, this also showed the real (not related to my poor wifi connection I had) issues I still have with the StarShoot camera. Quite frankly, it's terrible in the sense of being reliable. I always run into capturing frames, for instance for the polar alignment, then restarting it and getting an error which can only be resolved by stopping INDI and the drivers en starting everything up again. This happens throughout various elements of the capture process. I can only image a whole night when every single step is perfect during initial setup. Which is why I lately resorted to SGP and Windows, on which the driver does behave (but was a pain to get going). It's all the fault of the QHY driver and QHY/Orion itself I guess so I'm kind of giving up on them. I really want to move back to Linux..

So, I'm hearing a lot of good things about the Lodestar X2. I think I want to go for that one, but before I do, can people here tell me if this behaves way better under INDI?

Thanks!

Thanks everyone, very informative! I actually went into the habit of not syncing my mount at all before a session. This is because I noticed that the initial model it starts out with was already fairly ok and the platesolving takes care of the rest. But what you're saying is that for the flip, it is vital to have an accurate model, I'll try that.

I'll check what my settings are, it could ofcourse be some comms issue, though I doubt that with the Ethernet connection. Or the mount itself has a problem. Thanks for checking!

I think it should also work at >0, but it may be the same issue. It's not that I missed a recent setting in the eqmod driver right?

Mmm, interesting. I now tried the HA>0.1 and the mount still didn't flip, just continued imaging. Same things in the logs using an AZ-EQ6 and EQMod driver.

So I'm trying a couple of other things and found that manually selecting a fairly small star works much better. Can I make Ekos not select the big stars? When I centered on Dubne it actually started focusing on it, being way too bright I'm not sure that was the best choice. :)

I'm guessing it's not going to use 100% of the CPU for 2 sec, so that wouldn't affect the rest too much. This method, as far as I read, is also not meant for the Pi perse, if it would work it would be nice, but it's not the goal I believe. And why would you want to guide much faster than 2 seconds? I always guide at 3, lower and I'm just chasing the seeing.

I will try that maybe tonight yes, it must be some setting that differs between the two, SGP has a optimization workflow for getting it right with all kinds of calculations to optimize set-size etc. Maybe that also helps.

Well, in SGP the star-sizes go up in predictable ways on both focus in and out, getting a symmetrical V-curve. In EKOS I get sort of a nice straight steep slope on 1 side, on the other side the slope is much lower as if the focuser isn't getting out on that side with the same amount as in. True, EKOS doesn't do an entire V-curve, but still the points on 1 side should be rather similar as on the other.

Maybe, but the 15 meters (or 49 feet) were chosen at random. :) It happened to be about the distance in between the devices. I know of someone running a 30 meter Lan cable just fine as well, I guess with an active switch or so.

Yes I did notice that, but even then, when it takes the first big steps, the points are pretty off in comparison to SGP. I wonder if it's due to my optical train, but it looks like it's not the best method for it.

I'm not sure if option #2 is that problematic, I have pretty fast success with SGP doing it like that. Granted it takes 10 sec per picture, but I'm not focusing all the time, just once or twice in a night. I do notice a big difference in my routine for EKOS and in SGP, maybe it's because of settings, but in EKOS I can't get a nice V-curve, focusing outward looks ok, inwards it's staying rather flat until it rises. In SGP I get a very nice symmetrical curve... not sure what the difference really is, but I now use SGP for focusing.
