Launching Kstars 3.6.0 (from Finder) then launching INDI server plus EKOS, from within Kstars, allows use of Cmd-F, and/or Pointing>Find Object... without a crash.

When you quit EKOS, Cmd-F and Pointing>Find Object... still works.

Quit INDI server, then use Cmd-F or Pointing>Find Object...: crash!

Yes, I found that a file in the data directory called asteroids.dat got changed a few months ago but was still working in 3.5.9. But then a change was made in kstars to support another change in that file by a developer between 3.5.9 and 3.6.0, but asteroids.dat was not updated again. But strangely enough, the older version of the file still works with this new change but the newer version does not. Sorry it is a little confusing. But yesterday I did inform the person of the issue and he is working on a solution.

So as a quick fix, could I copy asteroids.dat from the 3.5.9 build and put it into the 3.6.0 directory structure?

Or, how about deleting asteroids.dat altogether?

Thanks, Rob, for all your work!

Ok, two big fixes were just pushed for the find dialog bug and for the startup crash bug with the asteroids.dat file. I just rebuilt the dmg here:

edu.kde.org/kstars/#download

Please try again.

Please note that now the minimum MacOS version will have to be 10.15 and not 10.13 unfortunately, to go along with KDE/craft's decision on that. Too many packages would have to be rebuilt for 10.13 and some may not work according to their stated reason for changing it. Sorry about that I was hoping to maintain support for 10.13 for awhile longer :-(

Can you please try and run from the Terminal and provide the terminal output? Those MacOS crash reports are usually not very helpful. They don't actually show where or why it crashed clearly. The terminal output at least would tell us more about what it was doing when it crashed.

The terminal gives no output... unless there is a verbose mode?

Please try typing this instead:

/Applications/KStars.app/Contents/MacOS/kstars

I don't think the open command does the same thing.
