Color lost in fits image between Canon DSLR 1x1 and 2x2 binning

There is a color difference from a Canon DSLR between 1x1 billing and 2x2 binning. The 1x1 appears to work correctly. However the 2x2 looses color in the fits image.
The camera is a 1300D
I am running this with configuration 'out of teh box'. Is this a configuration issue? Is there a required bin map for this camera? I observe there are bin mapping configuration however I have not changed them.
Thanks in advance, Dan

I think binning is useful for alignment only and not recommended for regular image capture since you can't effectively bin a bayered image.

When you bin 2x2 you are combining the RGGB pixels and hence you lose the color information. You can do what you want, which is to improve SNR in post processing, by using what is called down-sampling in the various software tools. Alternatively, you can do additional exposures. Check your histogram to make sure the images are not overexposed. That’s another way to lose color information.
