When executing KSTARS with INDI-Lib under Ubuntu 10.04 (Linux-Kernel 2.6.x) it works fine configured as CCD (V4L2). But under Ubuntu 12.04 (Linux-Kernel 3.x) the V4L2 service also can be started and connected to the webcam, but no video stream is displayed.
I also tried this with a Raspberry Pi with the same result and it does not work for the same reason.

The Philips SPC900C uses the PWC driver under Ubuntu 10.04.

How can I get the SPC900 working on a Raspberry Pi.

Hallo,
here is an appendix to the SPC900 problem:
I just installed the ECOS VM on a PC and in the Device Manager of KSTARS under the Video Devices I can see four devices:
- Generic Video4Linux
- Philips Webcam
- Meade LPI
- STV Guider
When I installed KSTARS on the Raspberry Pi and the Ubuntu 12.04 I also could see a Philips Webcam in this section, but it disappeared after installing the indi-Library.

Can you please try using the new V4L2 driver under "CCD" section and not Video Devices?

I see no V4L2 driver under "CCD".
How can I install it there?

Great, the video stream works on the PC under Ubuntu 10.04. But it seems, that the pictures which can be taken with the command EXPOSE, are not correct (snowy and with strips).
Thank you for your immediate support!

Are these changes are also applied to the Raspberry Pi Version? If yes, I can test them tomorrow evening.

Sorry, for some confusion!
Yesterday evening I tried your indilib from ppa on a Ubuntu 10.04 system. In Linux kernel 2.6.x based OS like the Ubuntu 10.04 the SPC900 worked also in the past.
I did not test it on an OS which is based on LINUX 3.x kernels.
I will update the PC today and try it again.

This morning a setup an Ubuntu 12.04 OS on a laptop.
I used the indilib from your ppa and tested it with the SPC900 webcam and the V4L2 CCD server of INDILIB.
Congratulations: It all works fine with KSTARS running on a Linux 3.x kernel.
Thank you for your support.

One more question: How can I get these changes now into a Raspberry Pi configuration?

The INDI Library 0.9.8 Raspberry PI package should be sufficient, do you still get the crash on the RPi?

This evening I loaded the INDILIB for Raspberry and installed it.
In KSTARTS I could start the service for V4L2-CCD and the webcam can be connected in the INDI Control Panel.
Once the video stream is started, the reaction speed of the system gets very low and the video stayes black. In order to minimize problems with the datarate I set the video capture size to 160x120 at a Frame Period of 1/5s.
The only error displayed in the INDI control panel was:
ERROR (setsize) VIDIOC_TRY_FMT error 9. Bad file discriptor.

I was able to disconnect the V4L2-CCD service but could not reconnect again.

Hello,

Sorry for posting in this old thread, but I’m also facing issues with the LX tab from V4L2 driver with my modded SPC900NC and Ubuntu Mate (Raspberry Pi).

My moddification is the standard RTS from yesyes.info.
It works fine on Windows with K3ccdtools and also with AstroVideo, but I can only get non-black frames on Linux if I power off the USB to Serial converter (tested with 2 different FTDIs and both are enabled as /dev/ttyUSB0 and LED flases if I echo a command using the serial port).
I tried to play the bit options available on the tab, but couldn’t get it to work.

I tried also to patch the PWC module, following the steps from here , but I couldn't compile it, since the Kernel changed so much since version 2.6.

Could you please advise me how to configure the LX tab?

Thank you very much in advance for your time.

Best,
Andre

Could you validate your camera works with your kernel with the help of the V4L2 tools? It seems your issue is at a lower level than INDI, which should thus be removed from your investigation.
