Canon EOS 600D focus adjustment

Should I expect to be able to control the focus of a Canon 55-250mm zoom lens mounted on a Canon EOS 600D camera body, and connected to KStars 3.6.9 running on a Raspberry Pi 4 4GB, by remote control from the computer? It's some years since I last used a DSLR with KStars, but I am trying to build a lightweight system with an AZGTi and a ZWO miniguidescope with ASI120MC, the latter mainly for polar alignment. Exposure control and image downloading is working well, but I am not convinced that the controls are changing focus. Are there any special boxes I need to tick to get focusing to move under software control, and how should the physical MF/AF switch be set on the lens? Thanks for any help you can offer!

There always been focus controls for Canon DSLR but I never found them to be particularly reliable or useful. I don't believe anyone was able to run autofocus with Canon DSLR as the focuser but I could be wrong.
