WiFi dongle for RPI4?

Try to set your laptop to just use bgn and not 5Ghz ac, range is bigger for bgn but speed is less, but OK for just VNC.

Pi4 already uses maximum strength allowed by regulatory protocols, but bgn is better for range if having to pass walls, thick heatsink etc .. ac is high speed, but short range.

Neither of these is faster or more stable than gigabit ethernet so dont expect anything better than when using a network cable, it is going to be worse.

I use the „BrosTrend 1200 MBit/s USB WLAN Stick Linux“ and I can highly recommend it (has 2 adjustable external antennas). I get superior signal strength and I can even connect to my 5G Wifi which is 2 walls away (94 % signal, perfect, no delays). See my post here RPi performance optimization . This stick works under Windows as well, of course.

Do you have AC power at your rig? Why not given powerline ethernet adapters a try? Close to ethernet speeds over your AC line. I use them and they are waaaaay better than wifi.

I have no problem with the internal 5GHz Wifi. Reach is actually farther than with anything else I have at home.

How far out do you have to connect? I have ~75% at 60 ft from the transmitter.

I just tried it out and the „BrosTrend 1200 MBit/s USB WLAN Stick Linux“ is capable of creating a 5G Wifi hotspot. I could create the hotspot and connect to it.

I didn't test 2.4G, but I'm sure this will work, too. But 5G is of course preferable because of the higher bandwidth.

Dear limburg,

I received today the dongle, and I ask to BrosTrend for the ticket for rpi drivers, but today is friday and probably to monday I dont receive any reply. Do you remember how to install and where I can download the drivers for my RPI4?

Thanks,
