You could try DBUS scripting. There is a small section in the handbook on it:
docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/kstars/kstars/tool-scriptbuilder.html

If you google Kstars and DBUS there are some links, e.g.
api.kde.org/kstars/html/group__FocusDBusInterface.html

Personally, I've never done this so don't know whether it works or not. If you hit issues with focus I can probably try and help you with it.
