RST-135 cannot reuse guide calibration

Hello,
I am not sure but I think this wasn't the case before.

RST-135 always recalibrates the guider after each (even a small) slew while the Store and Reuse option is selected.
Is this intentional or a bug?

Thanks!

I can confirm the same behavior with ekos guiding. It seems to be able to reuse with PHD2 provided you stay on the same side of the meridian. It goes berserk when you flip sides (I have the mount option for pier side unchecked).

Don't know why that would be mount-dependent--it works fine on other mounts.
Do you have a debug log I could check?

I looked at the code just now and it seems it requires that the mount be able to report its pier-side in order to re-use the calibration.
Perhaps that mount doesn't report that? In any event, I may be able to see from the log.

Hy - you are correct - it doesn't report its pier-side.

Max,

Well, in that case, it probably never worked.
Reusing calibration without knowing the pier-side doesn't really work...the image is inverted when changing sides
so the calibration would be pointing in the wrong direction, and the guide pulses would go the opposite way they should.

Wonder why they don't report the pier side?

Hy,
There is actually an option "Simulate Pier Side" in INDI Control Panel.
I played with it a long while ago and didn't like it for some reason so I kept it OFF since.
Last night I enabled it and RST could re-use guide calibration after that.
Need to check how it handles the meridian flip with this option ON.

I tried "Simulate Pier Side" last night and it wasn’t happy on meridian flip even if I checked reverse DEC on flip (using PHD2)

If I select "Simulate Pier Side" then do a goto on the other side of the meridian it does not update from east facing west to waste facing east when it passes through the pole and stops the slew because it is outside the HA limit. This is probably why you disabled it - it doesn't work and makes the mount unusable on half the sky...

I am not sure but I probably didn't test it thoroughly enough.
I tested indoors today with simulators.
It flipped OK twice (with two different targets) and guided fine after.

Was going to test tonight under the real sky but RST gave me such a headache so I was happy to just get it going...
It was refusing to Go Home.
Finally got it working with the help of the Hand Controller.
Strange, since it worked fine for three nights in a row.

RST for sure is a quirky mount...
Mine does go over the meridian and doesn't stop slewing.
But it doesn't update the Pier Side..
With simulators.

BTW I found why Go Home didn't work - I enabled Alt limits to 90/10. Changed to 90/0 and it started to work reliably.

Mine was stopping because I had an HA limit set. Without that I would have expected it to keep moving. It wouldn’t guide properly because flip is not reflected in change of side in 5e driver.

OK. Did a real test under the real sky tonight.
(I believe I did this before).
"Simulate Pier Side" doesn't work right.
The mount performs the meridian flip fine but the pier side doesn't get updated and the guiding goes nowhere.

Any way to fix the driver?

Thanks!
