Unable to register new forum accounts was created by Aaron Morris

There have been some complaints by some people about being unable to register for a new account here. Not sure what is going on.

Would it be possible to migrate to some other forum system like phpBB? This one seems joomla based but it is horrible.

I agree, it's pretty poor and I've heard from a few people that say they have had no luck logging on to the site. Doesn't help the community grow!

Do we need to crowdsource some resources to do this? Or perhaps just create an INDI-user list in Groups.IO?

Still can't register new account. That recaptcha widget on registration page just spin and spin.

I disabled spam plugin .. but now we have to live with spam accounts and banning them.

No luck. Just open registration in private window www.indilib.org/support/community/register.html and try click on "I am not robot"

It's fixed now. We need to have a website revamp as well. Anyone willing to help? It's about the website content, what needs to be updated, what needs to be added/remove? Maybe open a new topic for it.

I'd suggest something more like IPS (Invision Community) as it has some great 1st party add-ons that could be useful.
Another would be XenForo, but the "good" add-ons for it are mainly 3rd party, and (even though that is what I'm using on my site) it's life expectancy has come into question by some (but I still renewed my license into latter 2025).
Having fun learning about the cosmos.
I also run an astrophotography site as a hobby.

Discourse seems to be pretty popular for a lot of open source projects. No idea how or why those projects chose discourse but siril, telescopius, libre.space, orekit, arduino ... are a few that come to mind.
